During the offline editing process, we diligently followed the storyboard and organized our footage in the rushes log, ensuring we had a clear understanding of the desired format before proceeding with the editing of the short film. After assessing the rushes log, we identified several areas that require adjustments:

Trimming or cutting out sections of certain clips where laughter or unrelated dialogue is audible before filming begins.

Cropping and zooming in on specific scenes to enhance visibility and ensure important details are easily discernible.

Applying darker tones to the scenes to create a scary and unsettling atmosphere.

Considering the addition of extra scenes to enhance the overall impact of the film.

Trimming down the duration of certain scenes to maintain pacing and narrative flow.

Removing distracting background noise from the audio track.

These modifications will contribute to refining the footage and aligning it with the intended vision for the short film during the offline editing stage.

Soundtrack and music

 

In our short film, we carefully selected a variety of music tracks to create an atmospheric and tense experience for the viewers. We used eerie music to unsettle and make the audience feel uneasy, heightening the suspense and anticipation. Fast-paced music was employed to keep the viewers on the edge of their seats, eager to discover what unfolds next.

By combining tense and calm music, we aimed to create a contrast that intensified the emotional impact of specific scenes. The overlapping and blending of audio tracks contributed to an overall ominous atmosphere, further immersing the audience in the narrative.

The power of tense music lies in its ability to generate suspense, evoke fear, and intensify emotional responses. It effectively heightened the tension and anticipation within our film, driving the story forward and engaging the audience in the experience. On the other hand, calm music added emotional depth by creating a serene and introspective mood, allowing the audience to connect more deeply with the characters and the story.

Through the careful selection and blending of various music tracks, we aimed to create a captivating audio experience that enhanced the overall impact and storytelling of our short film.

Establishing a Setting: A school bell ringing can be used to establish the setting of a scene or indicate that the story takes place in a school environment. The familiar sound of a bell can immediately transport the audience into a school setting, setting the stage for the events that follow. 

Setting the Tone: Tense music can establish the overall atmosphere and tone of a film or a particular scene. It can immediately grab the audience's attention and create a sense of unease or anticipation right from the start. By selecting the appropriate musical composition, filmmakers can effectively communicate the mood they want to convey.

Suspense and Thrill: Filmmakers often use a vibrating phone as a tool to build suspense and create tension within a scene. For example, in a thriller or horror movie, a character may be hiding from a dangerous antagonist, and their phone starts vibrating, potentially revealing their location. The audience's anticipation increases as they wonder if the character will be discovered.

Edit decision

Color correction is a versatile technique used to enhance the visual appeal of images and videos by adjusting the overall color balance, contrast, saturation, and brightness. It can correct white balance issues, eliminate color casts, and ensure accurate representation of colors. Additionally, color correction is employed to match footage from different sources, creating a cohesive and consistent look. By manipulating colors, this process allows for the creation of desired aesthetics, fixing color-related problems, and establishing specific moods or atmospheres.

Some of the videos I took with the camera really were dim, which definitely is fairly significant. It was with a f/22 aperture and a underexposed exposures. So I used the colour board in Premier Pro to brighten it up in a big way. I utilised the cut transition to move from one shot to the very next. As a result, the ident flowed kind of more smoothly, which essentially is quite significant. Here we had used an Iso of 200 since it is a light background and an apeature f/2.8 and a shutter speed of 1/25. This helped us achieve a nice finish with the lighting and connoted that they are in a school setting. 

However, in most instances, we opted for a standard

lens to create a different atmosphere and present alternative angles that deviated from our usual shots. By doing so, we aimed to prevent the audience from feeling confined to a single perspective, allowing them to experience the story from various viewpoints. Here we had used an Iso of 300 since it is a light background and an apeature f/2.8 and a shutter speed of 1/100. This helped us achieve a nice finish with the lighting and connoted that they are in a school setting and helped us bring shadows on the environment. 

Editing decisions

The composition of each shot was carefully considered to convey the intended emotions and visual storytelling. We employed the rule of thirds and experimented with framing techniques to create visually pleasing and dynamic compositions. This allowed us to guide the audience's attention and highlight key elements within the frame. By using effective composition, we were able to enhance the overall visual narrative and reinforce the intended genre and atmosphere of the film.

Lastly, during the post-production phase, we utilized color grading techniques to further enhance the overall mood and tone. By manipulating the color palette and applying specific color grading presets, we were able to accentuate the desired emotions and intensify the impact of each scene. For instance, we may have used cooler tones to create a sense of unease or warmer tones to evoke a feeling of nostalgia or comfort.

By carefully considering and incorporating these various cinematography techniques, we aimed to create a visually captivating and immersive experience for our audience. The combination of the pull and focus technique, the use of different lenses, lighting, camera movements, composition, and color grading all worked together to convey the intended atmosphere, engage the viewers, and effectively tell our story.

In order to streamline the editing process, we took the initiative to rename all of our clips. This allowed us to easily identify the next clips to be placed in the timeline during editing. We specifically focused on renaming the clips that were relevant to our desired sequence, excluding any unsuccessful attempts. This precautionary measure ensured that these unwanted clips would not interfere with the editing process or accidentally be included in the timeline.

To further enhance organization, we categorized all the clips into separate folders based on the shooting locations. For instance, we grouped together all the shots taken at the park, making it convenient for us to locate and access them efficiently.

After completing our short film, we conducted a thorough review of the settings to ensure their accuracy. To confirm the correctness of our settings, we gathered information from online forums and Q&A websites specifically dedicated to Premier pro. Additionally, we sought assistance and knowledge from another filmmaking group that had previously gone through the exporting stage, providing us with extra measures to ensure the accuracy of our work.

We took special care to consider the Visual and Audio aspects, as they are the essential components of our short film. Through our research, we discovered that utilizing the H.264 video codec would enable us to distribute our film with high-definition visuals and audio. This choice was crucial because some scenes in our product might have been unclear without the enhanced quality.

Furthermore, we opted for a resolution of 1920 x 1080, as it is a widely used resolution, ensuring greater availability and accessibility of our final product.

We prepared for filming by setting up a tripod to stabilize the camera and eliminate any shakiness that would occur if we held the camera by hand. The tripod provided features such as smooth panning, allowing us to capture clear establishing shots of the filming locations.

To ensure a secure setup, we made sure the tripod was stable and securely mounted the camera onto it. This prevented any accidents or instability during the recording process.

We ventured into various locations to film our project. One of the chosen spots was an classroom, known for its normal and familar ambiance. We believed this location would be ideal to convey the desired atmosphere in our short film.

Prior to filming, we ensured the camera lens was clean and focused properly, guaranteeing sharp and clear footage for our recordings.

A tripod on tracks is a camera support system that combines a tripod with a set of tracks or dolly wheels. It enables smooth and controlled camera movements for capturing dynamic shots in filmmaking and photography. By gliding along the tracks, the camera achieves stability and precision, particularly for tracking shots. Various track systems are available, offering different sizes and features. Setting up the tracks, mounting the tripod securely, and moving the camera along the tracks helps achieve professional-looking footage with fluid movements. Overall, a tripod on tracks is a versatile tool for adding visual interest and professionalism to projects. We used this so we can get a rolling shot. 

Lighting evidence. 

In a three-point lighting setup, the key light is the primary light source that illuminates the subject or scene. It is positioned at an angle to create depth and shape the subject's appearance. The key light establishes the main lighting direction and can be adjusted to control contrast, shadows, and highlights. It adds dimension, texture, and mood to the scene and plays a crucial role in creating visually appealing photographs or video footage.

In a three-point lighting setup, the fill light is used to balance the shadows created by the key light. It is positioned on the opposite side of the key light and provides a softer and less intense light source. The fill light helps reduce contrast, reveal details in shadows, and create a more even and natural-looking appearance. Its intensity is typically lower than the key light, and it can be adjusted to control the level of shadow fill. Incorporating a fill light in the setup contributes to a balanced and pleasing lighting result.

In a three-point lighting setup, the backlight, also known as the rim light or hair light, is positioned behind the subject. It creates highlights along the subject's edges, separating them from the background and adding depth and dimension to the scene. The backlight helps to outline the subject and adds a professional touch to the overall lighting composition.

The ideal bus stop location should be easily accessible and visible, located near transportation hubs, and incorporate creative elements such as eye-catching artwork or greenery. Safety features such as CCTV, wheelchair accessibility, and adequate seating should be prioritized. The bus stop should also provide shelter from inclement weather, clear signage indicating route and timetable, and offer visually appealing backdrops for cinematography purposes. By taking all these factors into consideration, the bus stop can offer a comfortable and visually interesting waiting experience for passengers while also being practical and safe.

For the interior of a London bus, the layout should maximize passenger capacity while providing ample space for luggage and personal belongings. The design should feature creative elements such as lighting or decorative touches that reflect the city's culture. Technical considerations include ample seating, clear and concise route information, and accessibility features such as space for wheelchairs and audio/visual announcements. The interior should be comfortable with climate control, ventilation, and reduced noise and vibration. To enhance cinematography, lighting should be carefully considered, and the bus interior can be used as a unique backdrop for storytelling.

To maximize the limited space of a corner shop interior, the layout should be intuitive and located in a prominent, easily accessible location. Incorporating creative elements such as decorative shelving or branded merchandise can enhance the shopping experience. Technical considerations include efficient use of space, clear product categories, and easy restocking and checkout processes. Comfortable and well-maintained facilities with a range of products should also be provided. To enhance cinematography, lighting and angles should be carefully considered to highlight key products or create a specific mood, providing a unique and visually interesting element of the local community.
