D1 and D2 unit 18

The provided image showcases the utilization of a redhead light as part of our three-point lighting system. Redhead lights offer versatility and serve as a potent and controllable light source. With their adjustable focus and high intensity, they enable precise illumination of subjects, ensuring proper exposure and emphasizing essential elements. Additionally, their wide beam spread makes them suitable for wide shots and effectively lighting up larger areas. The presence of this lighting setup denotes the focus on the main character and connotes them as the protagonist or "good guy."

A tripod on tracks combines the functionalities of a tripod with a set of tracks or dolly wheels, forming a camera support system. This configuration allows for smooth and controlled camera movements, ideal for capturing dynamic shots in filmmaking and photography. By gliding along the tracks, the camera achieves stability and precision, especially for tracking shots. Various track systems are available, offering different sizes and features. By securely mounting the tripod on the tracks and moving the camera accordingly, one can achieve professional-looking footage with fluid movements. Overall, a tripod on tracks serves as a versatile tool, adding visual interest and professionalism to projects. We utilized this setup to capture a rolling shot.

Within a three-point lighting setup, the key light acts as the primary light source responsible for illuminating the subject or scene. It is positioned at an angle to create depth and shape the subject's appearance. The key light establishes the primary lighting direction and can be adjusted to control contrast, shadows, and highlights. By adding dimension, texture, and mood to the scene, the key light plays a crucial role in creating visually appealing photographs or video footage.

The fill light, in a three-point lighting setup, is positioned on the opposite side of the key light to balance out the shadows created by it. It provides a softer and less intense light source, reducing contrast, revealing details in shadows, and creating a more even and natural appearance. Typically, the fill light's intensity is lower than that of the key light, and it can be adjusted to control the level of shadow fill. The incorporation of a fill light in the setup contributes to a balanced and pleasing overall lighting result.

In a three-point lighting setup, the backlight, also known as the rim light or hair light, is positioned behind the subject. Its purpose is to create highlights along the subject's edges, effectively separating them from the background and adding depth and dimension to the scene. The backlight assists in outlining the subject and imparts a professional touch to the overall lighting composition.

The provided screen grab demonstrates the implementation of Rembrandt lighting, where the light source is placed at a 45-degree angle to one side of our protagonist, slightly above eye level. This setup creates a dramatic effect by casting a shadow on our antagonist, seated beside the protagonist. Such lighting choice helps to establish a sense of mood and character, emphasizing the presence of both a protagonist and antagonist. The triangular lighting system employed further enhances the portrait's depth and dimension.

Prime lenses, such as a 55mm lens, often deliver exceptional image quality due to their design with fewer optical elements compared to zoom lenses. This design choice results in reduced lens aberrations and improved overall sharpness. When using a quality 55mm lens, one can expect good contrast, accurate color reproduction, and minimal distortion, which contribute to excellent image quality.

Many 50mm lenses feature a wide maximum aperture, such as f/1.8 or wider. This wide aperture allows a greater amount of light to enter the lens, enabling faster shutter speeds in low-light situations. It also creates a shallow depth of field, allowing for subject isolation and the creation of pleasing bokeh effects.

Prime lenses, such as a 50mm lens, are renowned for their exceptional image quality. Their design incorporates fewer optical elements compared to zoom lenses, resulting in reduced lens aberrations and enhanced overall sharpness. When using a high-quality 50mm lens, you can anticipate excellent contrast, accurate color reproduction, and minimal distortion. This suggests that the protagonist is portrayed as a good person, but it also implies that they may be falling into a trap.

In one of the images, Alain can be observed diligently inspecting the recording setup to ensure proper configuration. Alain is meticulously verifying that the settings are adjusted correctly to eliminate any potential background noise. This moment showcases my attention to detail and dedication to achieving high-quality audio.

Lastly, we have a picture capturing Alain deeply engrossed in listening to the recording. Wearing headphones, I am attentively assessing the clarity and accuracy of the recording. This step plays a vital role in guaranteeing the overall quality of the final product.

D2
Some of the videos captured with the camera turned out to be dim, which holds significant importance. They were taken with a narrow f/22 aperture and underexposed exposures. To rectify this, I utilized the color board feature in Premier Pro to significantly brighten the footage. Additionally, I incorporated cut transitions to smoothly transition between shots. Consequently, the identification elements flowed more seamlessly, reducing the visibility of extensive editing. The accompanying screenshot showcases me adjusting the color curve, where lowering it darkens the visuals, making them less appealing, while raising it has the opposite effect.

Evidence film takes of the production according to the genre and regulatory guidelines

This is a screen grab of a clear convention in our genre which is thriller. within the thriller there are elements of mystery. This can be seen here as our main character is talking to a anonymous person who seems to have an strong love/affection towards him who he has not met yet.A connotation of this is the anticipation and suspense that it is creating as everyone including the audience wants to know who the person is and why they are in love with him this creates a confused and lost atmosphere as everyone is egar to know furthermore the pressure of the mysterious person wanting to meet the main character also creates a sense of anxiety as it could end up being something dangerous or the character could be harmed.in addition to this both the audience and character do not have a background introduction of this anonymous person unlike the main character who is shown to be a student in a school. all of this creates a thriller convention which is something we wanted to create.

This can be considered to have similarities in terms of how both ours and this films character acts in this scene within the film the edge of seventeen. As in the scene the character can be seen messaging this guy about her liking him and how she wants to be with him. This again creates suspense and anxiety as the audience do not know who this guy is and how she knows him.Furthermore this allows the audience to be engaged and interested as the would want to see the guy and see if he is a good person or someone dangerous. while anticipating what could happen after. This denotes that this scene in our film conforms with a general convention that can be seen in similar Mystery/Thriller films.

Another aspect of genre conventions that our short film conforms to is the use of an argument.within many mystery thriller films and short films there would need to be a sense of mystery and that mystery being solved. in our short film we have the main character finding out that the anonymous girl was actually his friend taking payback for a grudge that he had however as the friend is still not showed through the use of dialogue and emotions we have done well to show that his friend is actually the enemy. However since it still is a thriller mystery short film the friend is never shown.

This short film called friend zone is a similar situation to our short film as the friend betrays his best friend and decided to speak to his girlfriend furthermore the genre mystery is also played similarly to our film as the boyfriend does not know what his best friend is doing however the audience is seeing it creates a sense of thrill as well as the audience is engaged and interested as to what will happen next and how will the best friend find out.

Timing is one of the short film conventions we have adhered to. Our short film's length was factored into the production process throughout. The duration of short films is generally shorter than that of general films. These two short films follow this convention of having a short duration. There are many conventions associated with short films, including having a short duration since the contents are more relevant to the moment than explaining character backstories, which can also be considered a short film convention.

When examining the length of our short film, it can be said that it adheres to one of the conventions of short films, which is having brief duration.

The use of little to no dialogue is another pattern to which we adhered in our short film. Many of the scenes in our short movie only include one or two characters since we only want to show two physical characters overall and one digital character, who is the friend the student talks to at the beginning of the movie. The viewer may be able to infer from this connotation that the character is talking to themselves or thinking to themselves because the noises have more of an echo.

The same is true in the movie Wait. The character has been revealed to have no conversation, preferring instead to wait for his food while daydreaming about being a drummer. The lack of characters is another parallel that is apparent. As the sole figure physically present during the entirety of this short video, the character seen in the image.

The rating that we have considered to appropriate for our content is 15, which are normally films with a lot more action, violence and language.

These are the codes that have been applied to this classification, meaning that we are not allowed to make our content intense and must keep any violence in it to a minimum. The regulatory board regards the following characteristics as those of a film deserving of a 15 rating. Due to the violence and argument it depicts, our short video would fall under this heading.

specifically this category is what will put our film at a rating of 15 as our film will contain an argument scene and there may be some bad language spoken which exists with thrill and mystery films.

Sound editing

We have incorporated a variety of sound effects in our project.

Another frequently employed sound effect was a bell ring, which we utilized in various instances. Firstly, we used it when the character pressed the bell at the starting point in the classroom, indicating to the audience that the bell had been rung. We also modified a bell ring using GarageBand to create an abnormal or distinct sound compared to the other bell rings throughout the short film. This was done to capture the audience's interest and focus. Additionally, we incorporated a door closing sound effect to depict the closing of a door at the beginning of the film.

The bell ring sound effects can be considered both diegetic and non-diegetic. In the scene where the character rings the bell within the story, it exists within the scene itself (diegetic). However, other instances, such as when the screen blacks out and the bell rings after a few seconds, are non-diegetic since the bell cannot be physically observed in that particular moment.

The phone vibrating sound effect has multiple effects on the audience. Firstly, it adds a sense of realism to scenes involving phones, making the portrayal more relatable and authentic. Secondly, it engages the audience by grabbing their attention and immersing them in the narrative. The sound effect serves as an audio cue that signifies the presence of a phone notification or incoming call, heightening the suspense or intrigue in the scene. It can evoke curiosity and anticipation, prompting viewers to wonder about the significance or outcome of the incoming message or call. Overall, the phone vibrating sound effect enhances the overall viewing experience, contributing to the immersion and emotional engagement of the audience. We edited it so it would be loud and the only thing that would be noticed by the audience.

Evidence of risk assessment and recce

The first two pictures show how I put a lid on top of my drink. Having drinks near electronics can be dangerous due to the risk of liquid spills. Liquids can cause significant damage to electronic devices by seeping into internal components, leading to short circuits, corrosion, and malfunctions. This can render the device inoperable and require costly repairs or replacements. Additionally, liquid spills near power outlets or power strips increase the risk of electrical hazards, such as electrical shocks or fires. Liquids conduct electricity and can create a pathway for electrical current, posing a danger to individuals and property. Moreover, spills on computers or data storage devices can result in data loss, potentially leading to the permanent destruction of important files or documents. It's crucial to keep drinks away from electronics to prevent these risks, as liquid damage is often not covered by warranty agreements, leaving the cost of repairs or replacements on the user.

These two images show how a bag was moved out the way so it could make way for filming.Having a bag on the floor can be an obstruction in various situations. It can impede the flow of pedestrian traffic in crowded public spaces, creating a tripping hazard or blocking pathways. In environments with safety regulations, such as workplaces or areas with emergency exits and evacuation routes, a bag on the floor can hinder the smooth movement of people during emergencies or violate safety protocols. Additionally, it can pose challenges for individuals with mobility impairments and limit accessibility in spaces. Keeping walkways and common areas clear of obstructions is important for safety, accessibility, and the efficient movement of people.

To summarize, a bag on the floor can obstruct pedestrian pathways, emergency exits, and accessibility for individuals with mobility impairments. It can also violate safety regulations in workplaces and create hazards in crowded areas. Maintaining clear walkways and common areas is essential to ensure safety, accessibility, and the ease of movement for everyone.

Focus group evaluation

After completing our short film, we organized a focus group with our target audience to gather feedback and insights. We posed questions such as "What aspects of the short film do you think were successful?" and "What areas do you think could be improved?" The audience provided valuable responses, expressing appreciation for certain elements such as the effective use of sound effects to create an immersive atmosphere, the realistic acting performances, and the clear incorporation of horror/thriller movie conventions, such as a dark color palette and intense sound design.

The feedback we received also highlighted areas for improvement. One observation was that an actor appeared to be reading from a script and delivered lines in a robotic manner, suggesting the need for more natural and rehearsed performances. Some participants suggested cutting out certain audio segments that were deemed unnecessary. The focus group also emphasized the importance of practicing the script extensively before recording to avoid forgetting lines and delivering shaky or robotic performances.

Our primary objective with the focus group was to identify strengths and areas of improvement in our short film. This feedback would serve as a guide for future productions, aligning them more closely with the preferences of our target audience. In addition to gathering external opinions, we also engaged in discussions within our team regarding potential enhancements and modifications we would make if given the opportunity. For example, one group member inquired about the possibility of a sequel, and we discussed our perspectives on that idea. We shared insights into our creative process, discussing what we enjoyed about the short film and contemplating additional elements that could have been incorporated.

Reflecting on my personal role in the project, I recognized room for improvement in the editing phase. In particular, I felt that the libary screen could have been made more visually engaging rather than appearing bland. Given my knowledge of chroma key techniques, I believe I could have added more lighting to create an eerie and unsettling atmosphere, thereby captivating the viewers. For instance, incorporating a grunge border around the screen could have heightened the overall experience.

Regarding our acting performances as a group I acknowledged that more practice with the script would have enhanced my confidence and delivery. I identified instances in the short film where I seemed unfocused, and I realized that even when not in the spotlight, maintaining an engaged and realistic presence would have contributed to the overall authenticity of the scenes. Furthermore, I noted that my voice sounded shaky and stuttering despite portraying a scared character, indicating the need for additional practice to improve my vocal delivery.

Considering the production process, I recognized the importance of better planning and adhering to the production schedule. Allowing for multiple shooting days would have provided us with more practice and confidence, resulting in a more realistic final product. Improved communication between myself and my colleague would have ensured better task allocation, enabling more efficient workflow and faster completion. This would have afforded us more time to review and rectify any mistakes before exporting and uploading the short film to platforms like YouTube.

Evidence of using preproduction materials

In this behind-the-scenes snapshot, the film crew is engrossed in a lively discussion as they prepare to shoot a scene. The team is deliberating whether to stick to the storyboard or introduce improvisations to better align with their vision. The atmosphere is charged with creative energy as they consider the best approach to bring the scene to life. The decision is ultimately made to deviate from the original plan and opt for a walking shot instead of using a bus. This alternative choice offers more flexibility, allowing for additional shots and easier filming.

The second image showcases the anticipation just before filming begins. The entire setup is meticulously arranged and ready for action. A sturdy tripod holds the camera, perfectly positioned to capture the scene. Adjacent to it, lighting equipment is strategically placed to enhance the visual aesthetics. The image captures the tangible excitement and readiness of the crew to embark on the filming process.

This behind-the-scenes glimpse highlights the collaborative and adaptable nature of the film crew. Their willingness to discuss and explore alternative ideas demonstrates their dedication to achieving the best possible outcome. The decision to improvise and opt for a walking shot reflects their resourcefulness and ability to adapt to unexpected circumstances. With the scene set and equipment in place, the crew eagerly prepares to capture the magic that unfolds during the filming process.
